Sketching dot diagrams for atoms and ions of elements 1 through 10

Learning Objectives:

  •  Calculate and Record the number of protons, neutrons, electrons, and mass number in neutral atoms and ions for Elements 1- 10
  • Construct dot diagrams for each element 1-10, a shorthand notation for Bohr models, using the element symbol and dots to represent electrons.

Directions:

1.  On Notebook paper, sketch each element's atomic structure.  You must include the nucleus of the atom with the proper neutron and proton numbers.

2.  You must draw out each electron shell with the appropriate number of electrons in each shell for the atom.  Remember to follow the Rule of Octets.

3.  The video link below shows a sample sketch of Carbon.
